MWACA Roadshow

My MWACA Roadshow kicked off the moment I grabbed the keys to my rental — a bright blue Ford Bronco. With blue being my favorite color, it felt like the universe was setting the tone for an unforgettable adventure right from the start.

And because every great journey deserves a visual, here’s the map of my road trip adventure:

My journey started in Wichita, Kansas, where the class took place inside WSU Tech’s automotive training facility. The building was enormous and thoughtfully designed to support the next generation of automotive technicians. But the highlight of Wichita had nothing to do with equipment or classrooms. It came from meeting a service advisor who had taken one of my classes at VISION, one of the industry’s top automotive training conferences. They told me that after attending my session, they set a major goal — and achieved it. Today, they are the service manager. Hearing that moved me deeply. To make the moment even more meaningful, their shop owner attended my Communication Mastery session as well and purchased a full set of books for their entire team. Wichita set the tone for everything that followed.

Next, I traveled to Columbia, Missouri, where the Price Shoppers Playbook session was hosted inside the iconic Shakespeare’s Pizza, once voted the number one college hangout by Good Morning America. The walls were covered with vintage metal signs, many of them automotive-related, which made the atmosphere feel nostalgic and energizing at the same time. The room was filled with both seasoned automotive professionals who had spent decades in the industry — some a little hesitant to refine long-held habits — and enthusiastic new service advisors eager to learn. After the class, I spent time talking with a shop owner and their staff member about a communication breakdown they were experiencing. Together, we explored ways to rebuild trust and strengthen internal systems. Later, social media messages began pouring in from attendees expressing gratitude for the session. Those moments always remind me how much training impacts real shops, real teams, and real people.

My third stop was Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where the class was held at Kirkwood Community College, another impressive automotive training facility committed to hands-on technician education. One of the first faces I recognized was Travis Troy, whom I originally met at VISION. He surprised the group by dropping in to swear in the new MWACA chapter board members, which added a fun twist to the day. I learned that several shops had driven significant distances to attend this training session, hoping to sharpen their skills and elevate their shop culture. A standout moment in Cedar Rapids was meeting Suzanne Hoke in real life after she had attended several of my online automotive communication classes. She was warm, driven, and just as passionate about growth as she had been in my virtual classes. I was kind of disappointed I didn’t get to see her Electric Blue Dodge SRT4.

My final destination was Chicago, Illinois, where the session took place at Midwest Performance Cars. Because the Explaining Diagnostics, Repairs and Maintenance session fell on a Saturday, the group was smaller, but the passion in the room was unmistakable. Chicago’s highlight was learning that the shop owns a green Porsche track car and that their employees participate in autocross events together. There is something incredibly special about a shop that bonds through both work and play. Chris, one of the attendees, also took exceptional photos of the session, capturing the spirit of this final stop perfectly.

Driving across Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois brought one of Ayrton Senna’s most powerful quotes: “The day you think there is no more to learn, you stop being great."

At every stop, I met automotive professionals committed to strengthening their communication, improving customer experience, repairing team trust, elevating leadership, and creating better shop cultures. Every conversation and every class reinforced why I love being a master service advisor and automotive coach.

This MWACA Roadshow wasn’t just about delivering training. It was about witnessing growth. It was about reconnecting with familiar faces from VISION. It was about seeing former students achieve major milestones. It was about shop owners investing in their teams. It was about the road, the people, the miles, the passion, and the friendships. This journey didn’t just educate others — it enriched me in ways I didn’t expect.

I returned home with a full heart, a renewed sense of purpose, and an even deeper love for this industry.
